TUT student commits suicide in the student’s residence

24 year-old Local government student from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) hanged himself on Sunday, 26 June 2016.
Mkhonza Philane Titus’s body was discovered by his friend, Seuntjie Matshiya.
Matshiya told Record that he found the lifeless body of Titus around 12 in the afternoon, next to the laundry washing area.
He said in the past weeks, first year Matshiya spoke of dying.
“Before Philane left my room on Saturday, he left me contact numbers to call when I do not get hold of him,” explained Matshiya.

It is alleged that Titus committed suicide after he found out that his girlfriend had cheated on him.

Titus’ roommate, Siboniso Ntsibanyoni said he last spoke to Titus last Friday morning before he went home.
Ntsibanyoni said he did not suspect that there was anything wrong with his roommate.
He mentioned that Titus told him and other students to attend his funeral but he took it as a joke.

Titus left a status on Whatsapp which said: “You made your bed now lie on it, if ubukwazi ukwamukela ukuhlupheka kwakho ngabe akunjena, no abortion please it is about me and you, he or she is innocent.”

TUT’s residence supervisor, Lindiwe Mkhabela said ever since she started working at TUT in 2012, she has never came across such an incident.

Soshanguve police spokesperson, Reneilwe Makwalo said she is not aware of the matter.
